Dear Idiloren,
Thank you for bringing this to my attention allowing me to update this answer that was part of a message posted several years ago using old information. As you have correctly stated the updated information, which the Dennisons have also been using for a while now, is that it is the field of vision rather than individual eye. While the right field of vision does lead in reading left to right scanning and beginning decoding it is in the mid field that the majority of reading takes place in a complex interplay of information flowing simultaneously to both hemispheres and being shared instantaneously and easily between all parts working as a whole in optimal whole brain reading. As we have learned over the years and have known to some extent for quite some time all reading, in fact most activity, involves the whole brain. What we used to refer to as homo-lateral or one sided processing really meant a greater than optimal reliance on some areas of the brain, usually in areas of the left hemisphere, and less than optimal in the rest, though it is as much or more about ease and efficiency of the flow of information between the areas involved.
Best Wishes,
Dave Saunders
